What Does Nuru Do?

Nuru International equips the poor in remote, rural areas to end extreme poverty in their communities within 5 years.

How? Our unique Service Leadership model trains and mentors local leaders to mobilize their community into groups. Then Nuru works with these groups to identify the factors contributing to the cycle of extreme poverty in their community. Only then do we start seeking solutions.

Our Research Team scours both the social and private sectors to identify the most effective interventions for the community in our five areas of development:

    AgricultureWater & SanitationHealthcareEducationCED

Once identified, top organizations specializing in these interventions (such as One Acre Fund and Living Water International) are invited to join with Nuru in addressing the needs of our communities. Nuru coordinates these partners simultaneously as a sort of General Contractor of NGOs leveraging our existing leadership network in the community.

Ongoing measurement and third-party evaluation keep us updated on our progress, and income-generating businesses integrated into our program areas provide revenues that will make our project self-sustaining. At the end of 5 years each program area will be self-sustaining, Nuru's Western staff will exit, and local leaders will continue to scale the project to neighboring communities to eventually have national impact.

Its a big job. That's why we need you.

Be hope. Be light. Be Nuru.

Nuru International is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, public benefit charity.
