I am Nuru because it gives me the opportunity to help end extreme poverty. What attracts me to Nuru is its sustainability—through teaching people to help themselves, Nuru’s influence continues long after the initial team on the ground has departed. Because extreme poverty is a root cause of violence and terrorism, putting an end to it will make the world a safer and more peaceful place.

We are Nuru because they give us knowledge. We now know how much we spend every month, but we also realize how much we have! The loans come through savings, and unlike the bank, Nuru does not charge us. They want our money to grow. They have built landmarks, latrines and wells that even our grandchildren will have. Also, with Nuru we have a brotherly relationship. They came and settled, they are like Africans. They are like us.

I am Nuru because together we can end extreme poverty and give every man, woman and child access to clean water, food, education, healthcare and the opportunity for a better life. I was fortunate to discover Nuru through (CEO) Jake Harriman, a college classmate, a teammate, a fellow Marine and a lifelong friend. Jake and his team have created innovative strategies that leverage emerging technology, effective measurement methodologies, and a robust partnership strategy.

We are Nuru because there HAS to be a way to end the cycle of extreme poverty. Relief and development are wonderful, but they need to be coupled with systemic reform, and Nuru has the possibility of that. It provides a sustainable and holistic approach to doing well at doing good, and therein lies the hope. Besides that, we personally know the core of the Nuru staff and their dedication, passion and commitment to measurable results is inspiring.

We are Nuru because no child should have to go to bed hungry at night or grow up without an education. People in developing nations should not have to die from diseases that have been eradicated in the Western world. Nuru is radically changing the way we attack extreme poverty by providing a holistic solution focused on accountability, sustainability, and scalability. What is remarkable about Nuru is the way that they listen to the poor and empower them to change their own lives.

I am Nuru because after seeing what they have done & how they are doing it, there is no way my conscience would allow otherwise. My heart would not allow me not to be involved in some way, knowing that an organization like this exists and is capable of eradicating poverty in a sustainable, holistic way. While I lack the experience and wisdom to be doing what the Nuru team is doing, I can still use my gifts and talents to be an advocate and voice on their behalf.

We are Nuru because they don't just tell us what to do, they show us, and in this way the people have seen that [their programs] are good. Nuru thinks about our children. They build classrooms for the baby class and sponsor teachers to go to college so they will return to be good teachers in the community. Now we have clean water from wells instead of sharing [water sources] with the animals. I have seen all the programs work and the results are very good for the community.

We are Nuru because every person deserves the chance to provide for themselves, but many have not been able to do so due to no fault of their own. We believe in Nuru's holistic approach to development that not only deals with immediate physical needs but addresses people’s long-term needs in a sustainable way. Nuru not only provides opportunities for people in extreme poverty, but it also provides a way for those in the developed world to distribute their wealth to a worthy cause.

I am Nuru because I believe that small numbers can make a big difference. Nuru is extremely well organized and holds their people and mission to the highest standards. Nuru is setting a new bar that provides the best of the best to the people who need them the most. This motivated organization has motivated me to take an interest in ending extreme power.
