Summary
The Nuru International Education model is designed to complement existing government efforts while making a measurable impact on child literacy levels. The model has two key parts – an outreach program and a drop-in center. The outreach program operates in collaboration with schools, providing reading hours, writing workshops and creative learning experiences for primary school-aged children that are facilitated by trained teachers. These programs are designed to increase the literacy levels as well as develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. The drop-in center offers many of the same programs as the outreach program, but in a creative space that is open to both in-school and out-of-school youth. This program is designed to engage children during idle times and provide alternative learning opportunities that stimulate creative, independent thought. The center will also serve as a resource for teachers where they can check out materials from a lending library and work with facilitators to learn about teaching tactics and projects that have a proven impact on child literacy levels. -Last updated 06/07/11
